The IT Business Analyst also referred to as a Business Systems Analyst or a Systems Analyst is primarily a functional position on a technical team. There is a technical component to this skill-set and the level of technical knowledge and ability required is usually depicted in the varying job titles. A Business Systems Analyst or a Systems Analyst may have more in-depth technical knowledge around a particular application(s) than a typical IT Business Analyst. They may even write queries and code to pull data or automate tasks. Either way, the core function of this skill-set is to serve as a liaison between the Business and Technology, bridging the gap between what may be wanted and what can be done. Common tasks include gathering requirements and documenting procedures.
